Recycling Banks

Stanton Parish Council like to contribute to the campaign for a greener Suffolk. The Parish Council works with West Suffolk District Council who recycle all our donations in the recycling banks.

Recycling Banks for clothing, bottles and paper are located on the Recreation Ground near the Community Village Hall.

Whilst textile prices are currently around the £350 a tonne mark, your door to door charity bag goes directly to a commercial company who donate to Charity on tonnage - often only around £40 to £50 so the majority of your donations are going to the private company who recycle and send these off to mainly Africa to be re sold. Using the clothing bank means that this profit will go back to your Parish Council.

Last financial year the Parish Council received just under £2200.00 from recycling. Every penny of this is used to improve village facilities including our new play area and street furniture.

Help us to improve our village and do your bit for a greener Suffolk by recycling at the recreation ground as much as you can!

Dear councils, 
 
This week my blue bin was emptied a couple of days late so I understand firsthand the inconvenience, stress and hassle this can cause. 
 
However, today I witnessed the crew at full pace going about their job collecting and emptying the bins and I hope you will agree with me that they do a terrific job, come rain or shine. 
 
There are still a few hundred bins and caddies of the 84,000requiredthat need to be delivered and we have teams out dealing with these. 
 
I can also assure everyone that the teams at West Suffolk Council are pulling out all the stops to get on top of things and after seven weeks we are getting near to the service we have consistently provided to 
residents over the years. 
 
Is Better Recycling worth it? 
 
Each year we collect approximately 10,000 tonnes of recyclables fromthe84,000 households in West Suffolk. 
 
For every tonne we can direct to recycling, rather than burn, will save around £70, which soon adds up, and is used to support services within Suffolk. This also helps protect the environment and resources for generations to come. 
 
In addition, approximately 100 tonnes of food waste is being collected each week and this is now being used to make fertiliser and biogas. 
 
Whilst writing, I will take this opportunity to say thank you for your support, patience and understanding, but at the same time apologise to those who have been inconvenienced in any way. 
 
To make you aware, a number of residents have already been advising us the blue (plastic and glass) bins are filling quickly. Please rest assured we are monitoring this closely over the next few months as we really do want to recycle all that we can. One quick suggestion for milk and soft drinks bottles is to ‘wash and squash’ them (they are really flimsy) and put the top back on.  It does actually save quite a lot of space!
